Our story begins with Doyle and Bert's great grandfather, Bill Miller, when Bill only had a few cows roaming the Territory of Oklahoma in the late 1800's before statehood. Our dad, E.D. “Boots” Miller, started his journey with cattle at 17 years old, when he entered the Cherokee County Fair. E.D. took home the first-place ribbon that year with his Hereford steer named Tommy. The picture shows a young E.D. showing his steer.
“Our family has been in the cattle business on and off for over a hundred years. We've been raising cattle in Waynesboro, Tennessee since 1976. In 1981, Dad expanded our operation by purchasing a Brangus bull and heifers, marking the beginning of our journey in the registered Brangus business. Dad's interest in cattle started at an early age, when he entered the Cherokee County Fair. E.D. and took home the first-place ribbon. He grew our cattle business from the ground up, starting with a collection of small farms in the area to purchasing a 2,000-acre ranch in 2006 that is still in operation. He passed away on April 1, 2021, at 92 years of age, but his legacy continues today. His passion and insight put Buffalo River Beef in motion, whose primary purpose is to raise cattle that are functional and succeed in a pasture setting, and to produce a carcass that gives the consumer an enjoyable experience.”
“Over the past 50 years, we have consumed the beef raised on our ranch, and on occasion sold freezer beef to families. Encouraged by positive feedback from consumers and our own experience at the table, we knew it was time to share our premium beef with the public. Out of that desire, Buffalo River Beef was born as the marketing arm for our family-raised beef — a name inspired by the Buffalo River, where our ranch is located. A very scenic, wild, and un-impounded river, it meanders through the southern and western portions of Middle Tennessee supporting a diversity of wildlife. Our cattle are humanely treated and raised in a stress-free, tranquil environment of grass pastures, not in dry lots or feed lots. Considering our location and the quality manner in which we raise our cattle, the name Buffalo River Beef seemed fitting.
